Compliance & Regulatory Considerations 

In Canada, the transportation of diesel fuel is regulated under Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) regulations. Tanks used for transporting diesel must meet Transport Canada regulations and other applicable standards.  

• For tanks under 454L: TDG regulations allow for exemptions when transporting diesel in containers under 454L, provided the tank is properly labeled, and securely fastened during transport. This reduces regulatory burdens for small-scale fuel transport. 

• For tanks over 454L: Tanks exceeding 454L must be certified by Transport Canada and comply with additional TDG requirements, including periodic inspections and proper certification. 

• Farm Exemptions: Certain farm operators may qualify for exemptions when transporting fuel for agricultural use. These exemptions vary by province and should be verified to ensure compliance.
